Even though the car has a decent service history and has clocked 61,000 km, the cambelt has never been changed.

I called about today to get a ballpark figure, and the main dealer quoted £800 to replace it—not including the £250 for the water pump.
Who, without a new waterpump, installed a cambelt?

If it were up to me, I'd also finish the service belt simultaneously.
It appears that replacing the water pump along with the engine is a common practice for contemporary automobiles. The location and construction likely play a role.
The pump used to be on the side of the building, where it was easily accessible and had a good reputation for durability.
